New technology can be scary, especially if past experiences left you frustrated. But Access isn’t about learning code or becoming a programmer. It’s about the potential of turning time-consuming, repetitive tasks into a single click of a button.
When I first started out, I was nervous too. I had no background in computers and software and there were a lot of tech people I knew that seemed so much smarter than I was. They worked with super complex programming languages that I couldn’t even begin to understand.
I was a little afraid that, eventually, I would have to learn some of these more complex tools when I ran into things a client wanted that I couldn’t do with Access. But, guess what! It never happened. In 30 years I was able to do everything asked of me with Access.
Every time I was asked to do something I didn’t know how to do, I found another tool or technique in Access that seemed to be tailor made for it. I was able to do it all and that really is how I learned most of what I know about Access.
What I think intimidates people is that there is a fair amount to learn, even to get started, and it takes time. There are no shortcuts. But I compare it to learning to drive a car.
You are not going to learn to drive unless you start with the basics and practice until they are natural then move to the next thing. With Excel or Word you can just start typing, but Access is different and an investment in time needs to be made to learn it.
BUT, just like a car, Access is meant to be used by regular people. If you invest the time, it becomes easy, just like driving. And then you learn more when you have a task that requires it. You don’t need to start by being a guru.
If you want to see an example of what can be done, take a look at this DEMO. In the A2PUSA community I offer a course every month called “Dissect the Demo” that shows you how to do the things you see in the video.
Here is the most important thing to remember: businesses everywhere are crying for people know how to do the things Access can do. And you, BECAUSE you are nervous, are a better candidate to do them than some techno-geek who can’t listen or communicate.
Access could become your new home. Learn it enough to get your first project done and you will never look back. In the A2P Community, I will show you how to make databases that require ZERO knowledge to run – just open the database and click the appropriate buttons.
Learn to do THAT with your database and then start automating tasks for others and you will become what it probably never occurred to you that you could become – a technical expert!
Long before that happens, you will realize that, once you know the basics of Access, it starts to become FUN!
So No fear. Just start with small wins and steady progress. If you just can’t get started, you can always hire me to create the first, as small as possible, project. Then you would have a foundation to work with and extend!
